This is a great site, but just as many great posters before (e.g. Leolaia), most of us will move on. You know best when is the right time for you. I hope I am getting very close to that day. I got lots of things that I am postponing simply because I spent too much time reading here. Great site (thank you Simon), but life outside of the internet can be even better.

Thinking of taking a break from this forum
by yadda yadda 2 instarting to feel my time is wasted on here lately and its time to move on.. some of the best, meaty stuff only gets a few hundreds views and as soon as the posts dry up a bit the thread is soon forgotten (usually in a few days) under the constantly falling snowflakes of new threads (many trival) continuously being created and popping up as 'active topics'.
the same core jw related subjects then keep reappearing over and over again as new threads without getting a thorough treatment at the time (eg, there must be at least one 'are jw's a cult' thread started each week on here; 'new light' topics get about 20 new threads started with the quality of analysis spread and diluted over all of them.).
anyone else tend to feel the same way at times?.

Thank you all for your help.
I am reading Misquoting Jesus by Bart Ehrman. That's how I discovered the controversy. I guess is not just a controversy between JW's and the rest, but a controversy even among other religions and bible scholars.
As a lover of history, and a "hater" of religion, I find it ironic that I am quite immersed in the Bible textual criticism and history of Christianity. It is such an interesting subject. Interestingly, most devout christians know little or nothing about it. Here I am, an atheist, ar agnostic, or whatever I am, reading at 1:30 a.m. with great interest about old bible manuscripts, scribes of antiquity and ante-nicene fathers, while my JW's brothers with their 25 plus years of reading the Bible know squat about the subject. Oh my God, the irony!

Acts 20:28 NWT
Pay attention to yourselves+ and to all the flock, among which the holy spirit has appointed you overseers,+ to shepherd the congregation of God,+ which he purchased with the blood of his own Son
King James and other translations
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Is this a corruption of the original text or a better translation of the original manuscripts?

I am no fan of the Goberning Body or the WT writers, but not including this story in the year book wouldn't necessarily be a sign of callousness or any other serious fault. Thousands of JW's around the world die every year, many rather tragically. Why sholud the WT be dedicating space to them in a short book. They will concentrate on the positive stories, just as every other organization would do, religious or non-religious. I feel that you are making too much out of the story regarding what the WT should do or doesn't do. There's plenty wrong with those SOB, let's not speculate and cavil at every opportunity lest we sound like rabid, petty apostates.

always glad to read stories like yours. Gives me hopefor my brothers, nephews, nieces and my own children. Fortunately, or unfortunately, they seem to be having a good time as witnesses. They are in a congregation full of good people.

I am beginning to believe that Satan is way more powerful than Jehovah. Satan has the brightest people on his side and he keeps his unrelenting propaganda very persuasive... and the best Jehovah can do is send people to stand on sidewalks or walk along doing... well... not much. I am leaning towards Satan side, even as bad as he is. It's a matter of survival, not of righteousness. I rather be alive than side with a good, but ineffective God.
Root for Satan, he certainly is kicking Jehova's butt.

Hello, its good to be back, seriously!
by AllTimeJeff infor the last year or so, the opening lyrics to gloria estefan's "always tomorrow" have been howling at me.. i've been alone inside myself, far too long.
never really wanted it that way, but i let it happen..... .
(btw, the message in that song is great for former jw's, if you want to think about the lyrics that way....).
